Big Second Half Propels Tigers Past Delta Devils

ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University men’s basketball program held a four-point edge going into the halftime locker room but Texas Southern exploded for 49 points while limiting the Devils to just 25 in the second half to take control.

Mississippi Valley State Top Performers

  • Caleb Hunter tied for the game’s most points with 14, draining six buckets and two threes to give him ten double-figure outings in-a-row thus moving his career point total to 1,082.
  • Terry Collins was the sharer of the co-scoring lead, also dropping 14 on 5-of-10 (50%) shooting to go along with a game-high four assists plus four boards and two steals.
  • Gary Grant and Daniel Umoh each topped the rebounding category for Coach Hunter with six while Grant contributed his ninth straight ballgame with ten or more points at 11 with a 62.5% (5-for-8) field-goal percentage.
  • David McCoy excelled at the fundamentals of round ball, snatching a game-best four steals and dishing out three assists on top of four points and a pair of rebounds.

Notes

  • Mississippi Valley won the turnover battle (16-12) for the 15th time in 24 contests and scored five more points off the mistakes compared to TSU (18-13).

The Green and White will attempt to sweep the season series with PVAMU for the first time since 2013-14 on Monday night and send the Seniors out with a victory.
