Braves Hold Off Delta Devils In Final Seconds

LORMAN, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University men’s basketball program almost pulled off a shocking upset over the top-seeded Braves on its home floor, erasing an 18-point deficit to take the lead with just over three minutes remaining but Alcorn willed its way to a three-point nail-biter.

Mississippi Valley State Top Performers

  • Gary Grant went for his third double-double of the campaign with a 14-point, 10-rebound performance plus four assists with the latter two stats being team and game-highs, respectively. Ten of his 14 points (71.4%) of his scoring came from the charity stripe as he went to the line 15 times on the night.
  • Terry Collins possibly saved one of his best outings of his career for second-to-last, going off for a career/game-high 24 points on 8-of-17 (47.1%) shooting, a personal-best two blocks, a season-high five boards plus a season/game-best three steals as well.
  • David McCoy logged his seventh double-figure scoring affair of the year, dropping 14 points with a season-high five free throws made without a miss to go along with game-highs of four assists and three steals.
  • Alexander Perry made the most of his season-best 31 minutes on the court, recording a career-high ten points and four field goals while tying a season-best for rebounds (4) and having his first multi-assist (2) plus three-pointer (2) ballgame of 2021-22.
  • Jordan Johnson played in a season-high 16 minutes with a personal-high three rebounds and George Ivory III tallied his first points as a Delta Devil when he nailed a triple.

Notes

  • Valley narrowly edged out Alcorn in the turnover margin, committing 13 while forcing 14 for its 18th game on the plus-side.

JSU awaits the Delta Devils in the regular season finale on Saturday inside the Lee E. Williams AAC.
