BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University softball program will have representation among this year’s preseason All-Conference winners as shortstop Brianna Alston was voted to the All-SWAC Second Team by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors on Tuesday afternoon.
Alston, a senior from Rocklin, California, earned the same distinction prior to the 2021 campaign before going on to rank sixth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a .338 batting average.
The 5-foot-11 Rocklin High School alumni was the Devilettes top hitter lasts season with a team-best 24 hits and 13-game hitting streak. She made 22 starts over 25 appearances for former Head Coach Lee Smith, producing five multi-hit outings including a 3-for-3 performance in the season finale at Alabama A&M to go along with her only multiple-RBI outing of the season the day prior.
Alston had an overall stat line of 24 hits, 12 runs scored, seven RBIs, four doubles, four walks, two stolen bases and a home run while hitting .338 and turning two double plays on defense.
Alston and the rest of the Devilettes open its 2022 regular season on Friday, February 11 at 12:30 p.m. versus Syracuse in the “Best on the Bayou Classic” hosted by ULM.
