JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University softball program had to be frustrated by the so-close but so-far nature of the weekend, dropping all three contests in the series at Jackson State by the same score, 2-1.

  • Morgan Gutierrez set new season-highs during her first career complete game, doubling her previous-best with six innings and notching three strikeouts in game two.
  • A’tajua Wren also went the distance with six workwoman-like frames of no-walk ball, her second start without a free pass in her career, while allowing just a pair of runs and punching out three Lady Tigers.
  • Brianna Alston extended her season-long hitting streak to nine-in-a-row as she smacked a single in game one while legging out her first triple in three years during the nightcap.
  • MyKaila Fleming hit a milestone as the freshman drove in her first career run on top of collecting two hits over five at-bats after coming into the series with one to her name.
  • Keisha White logged her second multi-hit affair of the campaign along with her team-leading fifth double during a 2-for-3 game one in which she also scored the lone run.
  • Shelby Carson and Naomi Drake each recorded two base knocks in the second tilt combining to go 4-for-5 (.800) for their third multi-hit outing of the season for the former and the second multi-hit game of her career for the latter.

The Devilettes return home for another crucial SWAC East battle as the Lady Hornets of Alabama State make its way to the Mississippi Delta for the uncommon Friday doubleheader plus game three on Saturday afternoon.
