
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University men’s basketball program has now had two of the past three SWAC Freshman of the Year winners as Gary Grant joins Caleb Hunter (2019-20) as the top first year player in the league as voted on by the conference’s Head Coaches and Sports Information Directors.
The Queens, New York native ranked ninth in the SWAC for free throws made (90), was the only Valley student-athlete with multiple double-doubles (3) and scored in double-digits in 18 of 28 (64.3%) games plus a trio of double-figure rebounding contests.
The former St. Raymond’s High School alumni led the Delta Devils in field-goal percentage (45.1%), rebounds per game (4.6) and blocks (13) while averaging 10.3 points, 1.3 assists, and 0.9 steals per matchup.
