Hunter’s Heroics Not Enough As Devils Bitten By Rattlers

ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University men’s basketball program was nearly carried to a victory on the back of Caleb Hunter’s career shooting day but Florida A&M was able to outlast the home squad.

Mississippi Valley State Top Performers

  • Caleb Hunter is the second Delta Devil to drop 30-plus on the opposition over the last two weeks, joining Devin Gordon with a career-best 31 points on a tied for career-high 11 field goals (11-of-20, 55%) and a tied for season-best six triples (6-for-13, 46.2%). He also logged a game-high three steals.
  • For the third time this season, point guard Elijah Davis tallied a season-best seven assists which also turned out to be the game-high and added four gritty points on highly contested layups.
  • Terry Collins provided some much needed offense from the bench for Coach Hunter, squeezing out a season-best 13 points off the pine.
  • Quorien Waldon put his first two points of the campaign on the board on top of two rebounds and his first steal in just eight game minutes.

Notes

  • Valley won the turnover battle by a plus-five margin (17-12) but lose the rebounding war (37-25).
  • The Green and White did get more of a contribution from its bench relative to the Rattlers as MVSU received 15 (13 from Collins) to just ten for the visitors from Tallahassee.

MVSU will make its way to “The Boot” next weekend for a date with Grambling State at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday inside the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
