
OXFORD, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University men and women’s track programs showed that they can compete on a bigger stage as both teams competed valiantly at the Joe Walker Invitational at Ole Miss.
Darrione Joseph is making a strong case for Freshman of the Year, winning another 100 hurdles event with a time of 14.03 and beating out competitors from Southern, Bradley, Lipscomb, Belmont, and Memphis.
Tremaija Neal set two new personal-records; one in the discus throw (33.17m) and the other during the javelin toss (23.09m).
Chelsea Okusagah completes the trifecta of Devilette standouts, setting a new low time for her 200m, sprinting the event at a 25.62-second clip.
The men saw two of its own crack the SWAC’s top-five student-athlete showings for their events in the 2022 outdoor season in Kiion Smith and Jacob Bell.
Smith smashed his previous best distance in the discus with a launch of 46.35m to rank as the fourth-longest measurement in the league.
Bell did not PR but did slot himself into the fifth spot among his conference peers as he clocked in at 55.53 seconds during the 400 hurdles.
Lastly, Calvin Adolph II joined Neal with a pair of field personal-records to crumble with a 30.17m hammer throw plus a 39.69m javelin toss.
Valley will take next weekend off before its final venture of the regular season takes it to Monroe, Louisiana for the Warhawk Classic on April 23.
