Joseph Wins 100m Hurdles, Numerous Student-Athletes Hit PRs At Rhodes Invite

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Mississippi Valley State University men and women’s track programs made the short trip up to scenic Rhodes College for its outdoor opening meet.

Darrione Joseph impresses every time she hits the blocks, winning the 100m hurdles in her first time competing in the event, blowing by the competition with a 14.15.

Continuing a standout day for the Devilettes was a pair of top-five finishes by Carrie Snipes in the long jump (5.13m) and Michaela Brown during the shot put (11.10m) with Brown also tallying a top-ten placement regarding the discus (31.26m).

Other women with top-ten slots included Chasity Houston (discus – 32.49m), Makiah Sherman (12.54 – 100m), Trenity Hill (long jump – 4.83m & 100 hurdles – 17.20, PR), Chanel Watts (400m – 1:02.26), and Tremaijá Neal (shot put – 10.46m) while Chemyah Winn set a personal-best of 28.71 seconds in the 200m dash.

Jabarii Coleman was the only Delta Devil to come in fifth place or better, setting a personal-record of 6.48m in the long jump.

Kiion Smith landed himself a seventh-place finish in the discus (43.93m) and an eighth-place allotment for his shot-put toss (13.66m).

Desmond Ferrell and Elijah Edney conclude the top-ten placers with a 15.61 110 hurdles and a 2:00.47 personal-record 800m, respectively.

Two of the four runners in the 4x400m relay team set new personal-best times in the event as the 3:30.48 mark they put together was new lows for Edney plus Gabriel Crawford. Crawford also set a personal-record of 2:09.67 in the 800m.

Next on the schedule are the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays at the Mike Sanders Track Complex on the campus of Mississippi State this Friday, March 25.
