Mississippi Valley State Top Performers
- Sarah Moore had four games with double-digit rebounds and one outing of ten-plus points but until tonight they had not meshed for a double-double. That changed in a big way Monday evening as she exploded for a season-high 15 boards plus 11 points as well as a tied for season-best of three assists. In the process, Moore became the first Devilette in five years to wrestle down 15 boards in a night.
- Mikayla Etienne had a career day on the defensive end of the floor, stealing five balls to set a new benchmark while getting back on track offensively to the tune of 12 points, her tenth double-digit scoring game of season, and five assists.
- Zakiya Mahoney has taken her game to another level during SWACtion as she dropped 20 points on a conference foe for the third time in five tries and running her double-digit scoring spree to nine in-a-row and 10-of-11. The senior from Oakland was also deadly accurate, draining 8-of-13 (61.5%) field goal attempts.
- Kerrigan Johnson made a lot of hustle plays and left it all out on the floor for her coaching staff, dropping 17 points on 6-of-9 (66.7%) shooting and a tied for season-high four boards. It was her third double-figure scoring night of 2021-22.
- Ronni Williams once again played the role of distributor, tossing out six assists to front both teams in a short time span of 14 minutes.
Notes
- Valley made 30 field goals in a contest for the first time since November of 2019, shooting 42.9% from the floor (30-for-70).
- The Devilettes absolutely decimated the Rattlers in the turnover department, winning the battle by a staggering plus-18 margin (28-10), by far its widest +/- of the year.
- MVSU topped the 20-assist threshold for the second time this season, dishing out a season-best 23 dimes with eight of the ten players garnering at least one.
The ladies from Itta Bena will look to start a winning streak on Saturday at high noon in Grambling, Louisiana against the Lady Tigers of GSU.
