Senior Sendoff: Three Women & Three Men Compete In Final Regular Season Meet

Final Results

MONROE, La. – The Mississippi Valley State University men and women’s track programs had six seniors participate in the ULM Warhawk Classic as Delta Devils Chad Chandler, Kiion Smith, and Dwight Smith plus Devilettes Imani Walker, Destini Banks, and Trenity Hill competed once last time in a regulation meet.

The men from The Delta earned two silver medal finishes as Jabarii Coleman set a personal-record with a triple jump of 13.42 meters while Kiion Smith sent the discus 44.04 meters.

Kenneth Martin was not far behind Coleman in the triple jump, claiming third place with his personal-far distance of 13.23m.

The final significant placement for Valley’s Devils was Elijah Edney, who blazed a fifth-place worthy path in the 800m in a time of 2:00.03.

A pair of individual PRs fell courtesy of Desmond Ferrell’s 15.40-second 110 hurdles plus Calvin Adolph II’s 41.44m javelin toss while the 4x400m relay team ran a 3:29.12, which set a new fastest time for both Edney and Gabriel Crawford.

As for the females, a trio of ladies garnered fourth place allotments as Darrione Joseph (13.93 – 100 hurdles), Chelsea Okusagah (58.15 – 400m), and Chanelle Houston (1:06.71 – 400 hurdles) all contributed noteworthy efforts with the first two setting personal-bests, Okusagah’s shaving just a tenth-of-a-second off her previous-low.

All three student-athletes above were apart of the 4x400m relay quartet that took down each runners’ PR with a mark of 4:00.96 which also included Terreka Gibson with Joseph shattering a third personal-record on the afternoon during the 400 hurdles (1:11.15).

The dynamic senior duo of Trenity Hill and Destini Banks each succeeded in claiming two PRs apiece as Hill did so in the 200m (28.07) and shot put (8.99m) to go along with Banks’ high (1.47m) and triple (10.26m) jumps.

Prairie View, Texas and PVAMU awaits Head Coach Alonzo Banks’ squads as the SWAC Outdoor Championships will take place on Mother’s Day weekend from May 5 to May 8.
