Mississippi Valley State Top Performers

  • Jan Tolentino’s outing might not look impressive upon review of the box score, but the Puerto Rican made a huge impact as the backstop, blocking balls in the dirt all afternoon which will warrant a lengthy stint in the ice tub tomorrow.
  • Mississippi Valley had a tougher day than usual on the base paths, successfully stealing 2-of-4 bags after coming into the day with 19 steals in 20 attempts (95%).
  • Maury Weaver was the only Devil to swipe a base, nabbing second twice in three tries while going 2-for-3 at the dish with an RBI, run scored and a walk.
  • Christopher Soeder also had a 2-for-3 ballgame, launching the team’s only extra-base hit of the afternoon to the left field wall for a double.
  • Narvin Booker has set the table nicely for Coach Stubbs squad, tallying a sacrifice fly and an RBI plus a base knock.
  • Ty Washington produced the game’s first run to put MVSU ahead in the opening frame for the second straight contest, smacking the first pitch he saw into left field to score Weaver.
  • Willie and Eric Johnson both scored to go along with singles against A-State and Dreylin Holmes used his discipline to earn a free trip to first base via a walk.

Valley State will return to Itta Bena for 24 hours then turn right back around and head to Pine Bluff where a three-game non-conference clash with the Golden Lions awaits at 2 p.m. on Friday.
