BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University softball program made it a clean sweep in the voting for SWAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week as Naomi Drake and A’tajua Wren were selected from a pool of deserving candidates.
Drake, a junior from Elk Grove, California, went 4-for-11 with an RBI, walk and stolen base while hitting .364 over four games at the Golden Eagle Invitational last weekend.
Wren, a junior from Tupelo, Mississippi, spun a career-high seven-inning complete game, allowing only two runs and a walk while striking out two batters in her lone pitching appearance versus Houston Baptist. The pitcher/utility woman sported a quality 2.57 ERA while Husky hitters batted just .240 against her, shutting HBU out over the final six innings in a tough luck loss in Hattiesburg.
Drake, Wren and the Devilettes softball team head to Jackson for the Capital City Classic on Friday and Saturday where it will battle Tennessee-Martin and Southern twice each on the campus of JSU.
