ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University women’s soccer program has the makings of a giant leap up the standings with a mix of veteran talent along with gems found on the recruiting trail that can lift the Devilettes to a bounce-back campaign.
The Green and White will get to battle a pair of programs for the first time as MVSU travels to Murfreesboro for a date with Middle Tennessee on September 2 before playing host to the North Dakota Hawks in The Delta on September 16.
The home and season opener will feature the Southern Utah Thunderbirds in a matchup of squads who last faced off in 2004, a 4-0 Valley win, on August 19 while a trio of local mid-majors round out the rest of non-conference play with Louisiana-Monroe invading Itta Bena on September 6 to go along with short treks to both Little Rock (August 21) and Southern Miss (August 28) on the docket.
The road to the SWAC Championship begins on September 30 against the Lady Jaguars of Southern under the Friday Night Lights of the Mississippi Valley Soccer Complex.
Three consecutive home games will follow suit as the ladies do not leave The Sip from September 6 through October 9 as Jackson State (October 2), Prairie View A&M (October 7), and Texas Southern (October 9) all come into the Devilettes’ Den.
The conference schedule works in both extremes this year as a long home stand is followed by an equally long road trip with Coach Davies’ troops embarking on four road games in-a-row to tangle with Grambling State (October 14), UAPB (October 16), Alabama A&M (October 21), and Alabama State (October 23) before returning to campus for Senior Night versus the Alcorn Lady Braves on October 28.
The 2022 SWAC Women’s Soccer Championships will be held from November 3 – November 6 at the PVAMU Soccer Complex in Prairie View, Texas where the Devilettes will hope to make its first appearance since getting the sixth seed in 2017 and to claim its first championship in a decade (2012).
